Fall Decor on a Tight Budget

As I was talking to my neighbor last night we got on the topic on whether or not we would be renewing our lease. It is still too early to tell for us but more than likely we won’t be renewing. Even my mom says I won’t be happy anywhere unless I build my house πŸ˜‚

Anywho that topic changed to the topic of decorating our places for the holidays. I figured this would be an awesome blog post to share. My go to places to shop for cheap decor is the Dollar Tree and the dollar section at Target. If we move, I won’t mind throwing away our holiday decorations if they get ruined. Also Five Below is a good place too. Last Christmas, I got my lighted garland there for $5!!!

I love crafting so I will get ideas on Pinterest and recreate my own fall decorations to save even more money. Below are just some of my fall decorations and everything I got is either from the Dollar Tree or the Dollar section at Target.

I am also starting to look for decorations for Christmas. I know I know still early but now is when places have sales on Christmas items.

Almost everything shown here (believe it or not) I crafted myself! The black lantern is made out of black picture frames from the Dollar Tree and the candle inside is from the Dollar Tree as well. It is battery operated so perfect for the nighttime. The wooden crate was gifted to me at my baby shower. I made the leaf garland out of a package of leaves and string I got at the Dollar Tree. The plaid pumpkin was a $1 from the Target dollar section. Then the “Hello Fall” sign I made myself last year. Literally the materials came from the Dollar Tree. It is not perfect but it is unique so I decided to keep it.

This little set up is at the bottom of our stairs, right inside the front door. We keep our shoes underneath for storage.

I will add one or two small real pumpkins to this as well.

Update: I added three small pumpkins and I just love this little nook!

This tray I found in the Target dollar section a few months ago for $5! Such a steal and I can get multiple uses out of it. The pumpkins are $1 each from Target! I use this display on my dining room table or on my ottoman in my living room.

So we have this awkward brick wall that used to be a fireplace. They closed it off and just made a huge section into brick. The glass pumpkins I got at Hobby Lobby on sale last year and they were less than $5 each. The DIY glass jar ghost, pumpkin, and Frankenstein I made out of baby food jars! How cool are they? Oh and run to your nearest Trader Joe’s to get this Honeycrisp Apple scented candle! It smells so good and fills up our entire townhouse!

I made this wreath about 5 years ago and now I just change out the decorations for each holiday. I found these leaves at the Dollar Tree and I am going to go back for more to add to it. Cayde helped me decorate it which I love involving him. I will add some fall flowers to it as well. Update: The last time I went to the Dollar Store to get fall flowers I had to leave because Cayde was acting up. So this may be all the fall decorations this wreath gets πŸ˜‚

I’m not one to decorate my bedroom for fall (Christmas is a whole other story) but I couldn’t resist this year. Rico made our nightstands and I am in love! I had to add a fall touch to my nightstand. It isn’t much but I adore it! All three pumpkins are from Target! I will rearrange these pumpkins to add some fall touch on Rico’s nightstand.

Another tip is I “collect” decor I find at the Dollar Tree or the Target dollar section. The stuff I have bought but haven’t been able to use (like the white tray) always comes in use within the year.

Last but not least, here is our front door. Cayde loves helping put the gel clings on the window! I got these at Target for $1 each. So I paid $3 to decorate my front door.

I hope this helps inspire one or all of you to decorate even if you are on a tight budget!

Life update with a Newborn and a Toddler

Happy Monday friends! It’s been awhile since I posted and that’s because I have been adjusting to having a newborn and a one year old! So I figured it was time for a little life update.

I have had a few people ask how I am managing having two kids under the age of two without my main support system here to help. AKA Rico. The answer is simply I just do it. I have help every now and then, but it’s usually just the three of us.

I love that I get to stay home with my boys and I know that they are well taken care of. Some days are better than others and then there are days that are just flat out trying. That’s where both boys are fussy and they both want held…all day. If I get frustrated, I go upstairs to the bathroom and let out a good 5 minute cry. That to me is like hitting refresh.

One thing I have found to help me is to get a shower every morning. Even if it is a 3 minute shower. I may not wash my hair every day or every other day, but sometime during that week it does get washed. Baby steps πŸ˜‚

Another question I get asked is, how do I find “me” time. Well this one is hard to answer because I am still figuring that out. If I have to go to the bathroom, one or both boys are in there. Shower, yep you guessed it. One or both boys are with me. I have gotten like an hour here and there by myself but that’s not enough. I just go with the flow and focus on the moment. I know how fast the newborn phase flies by, so I am soaking that up.

It is funny how when I do get even a minute by myself, I miss my boys like crazy and want to be back with them.

Cayde and Lennox are my life. They come first. Now that I am past six weeks postpartum, I have been taking small strides of going out and about…with both boys! Sometimes it’s a crazy, hot mess and other times they both do so good. You win some and you lose some.

My advice for single mommas and well all mommas, live in the moment. It’s okay if your baby cries for a few minutes while you go to the bathroom or make breakfast. It’s hard to hear but they will be a okay! You are doing awesome and keep going! The next stage is even better than the last! Watching your children grow is truly a blessing!

Oh and also, coffee is my best friend. I have one cup a day. Lennox isn’t even 2 months yet, so I am still figuring things out. Meaning how to balance it all by myself. I have come to terms with that it is okay if there is dirty dishes in the sink 3 days later. I know it is okay if Cayde doesn’t pick up his toys every night. I need to listen to my body and if I’m pushing my limits, the dishes and toys can wait. I can’t be perfect, nobody is perfect. I strive for perfection and it is still a work in progress to get rid of that trait.

Overall life is so good! I wouldn’t change a thing, except for Rico to be here all the time. I am feeling good and the boys are well boysπŸ˜‚ I wouldn’t change being a boy momma for anything!

What I packed in my Hospital Bag

Happy Wednesday everyone!! Surprise!! I delivered a happy, healthy, and beautiful baby boy last week! And yes I posted my last blog post in the hospital πŸ˜‚ I figured I wrote it, I should share it! I took the last week to really soak in family time away from social media. It felt so good.

My two boys are truly what makes my world go round. Lennox and I are doing good and Cayde is so in love with his baby brother. I make sure I still find alone time to spend with Cayde so he doesn’t feel left out.

Today’s blog post is about what to pack in your hospital bag. This is my second time around and let me tell you what, I still didn’t use half of what I brought. Let me start off by saying not all hospitals are the same. One of the main reasons we decided to stay where I was born and raised was because we had such a good first experience at our hospital delivering Cayde. I didn’t want to deliver Lennox anywhere else. My hospital gave us pretty much everything I needed.

This is the only picture I got of my hospital bag πŸ˜‚ I totally did a blogger fail and didn’t capture a cute bump photo with my packed hospital bags. The night I went into labor, I finished packing my bag.

For the Mommas:

1. Eye mask. This is a must so you can get some sleep during the day.

2. Body lotion. Your hands will get so dry from washing them so much.

3. Deodorant

4. Makeup remover wipes. I did bring my face bar and face lotion and I used neither. To refresh my face after delivering and at night/morning I just used makeup remover wipes.

5. Toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss.

6. Chapstick. Believe me when I say the hospital dries your lips out. I was even asking for chapstick right after I delivered Lennox because they felt so dry.

7. Dry Shampoo. You can see I also packed shampoo and conditioner. I totally didn’t use those. Dry shampoo all the way!

8. Body wash. I didn’t use this either because the hospital had body wash for me to use.

9. Hairbrush

10. Body Sponge

11. Can’t forget about the cute toiletry bag!

12. Weekender bag

13. Extra tote. You will be coming home with way more than you entered the hospital with. Bringing an empty tote is a must.

14. Robe. Honestly I used the gown that the hospital had my whole stay. I didn’t want to bring anymore than I needed. I used the robe when I would go to the nursery or when I walked the halls.

15. Coming home outfit. I included black sweatpants that were loose and thin and a tshirt. Comfort is key.

16. Charger. I also brought an extension card so I could have my phone right next to me if charging.

16. I used my iPhone as my camera.

17. Wallet

18. Snacks galore!

19. Socks. My hospital also provided these but I wanted cute ones to wear.

20. Nursing bra

21. Cheap flip flops to wear in the shower.

22. Hair ties

23. Pillow and blanket. This made me more comfortable sleeping at night.

My hospital provided:

1. Tucks Pads

2. Perineal bottle

3. Nipple cream (if breastfeeding)

4. Pads

5. Underwear

And for the baby:

1. Diapers and wipes

2. Little onesies

4. Swaddle blankets

4. Hats

What I packed for baby:

1. Coming home outfit

2. Swaddle blanket and hat to take cute photos

3. Infant car seat

And literally that was it.

For all you first time moms, ask your hospital what they provide. A good tip is whatever the nurses put in your room, you pay for (well your insurance). So when you are getting discharged, take those extra pads, diapers, etc! You will use them when you get home!

For your spouse, really all they need is extra clothes and their toothbrush.

Pack travel sized items! Everything I brought was travel sized so I only had one bag. I didn’t even put on makeup. I rather soak in the first 48 hours with my baby boy than doing my makeup.

I hope this is helpful and as always if you have any questions/comments leave them below!

Preparing for Baby in my Final Two Weeks

Ahhh!! Where do I begin? Seriously guys, this pregnancy flew by. I can’t believe this time around the final month is flying by. When I was pregnant with Cayde, it seemed like the last trimester dragged by. Last week I took a very late baby moon with Rico and Cayde (only a 3 hour drive away from home) to get some sun. It was the best 4 days away!

Don’t get me wrong, I was very anxious and worried but once I got to the beach, I calmed down. Meaning I was able to relax instead of fearing I would go into labor. Call me crazy but I love adventure πŸ˜‚

The nursery is pretty much done. All of his newborn and three month clothes are washed and put away. I just need more storage containers (because I can’t ever have too many of those). Other than that, everything is organized and I am stocked as stocked can be.

I also have my nightstand all ready to go. Meaning I have a basket for diapers and wipes and then a basket for my breastfeeding supplies. I put a decorative bin downstairs containing the same items as well. Since I know I won’t have much help as I did with Cayde in the beginning, I am really focusing on just having things easily accessible in every room of the house.

I made a list of Caydes daily schedule. My parents will be watching Cayde while I am the hospital. Cue the tears because I am going to miss him like crazy!! I can’t wait for him to be a big brother though! I am trying to make my parents life easier with the list and me packing his suitcase of what he needs and uses daily. This isn’t my parents first rodeo so I know they got this.

All that is left to do is pack my bag and the baby’s bag for the hospital and sterilize the bottles. Cayde never took a bottle so I am going to introduce baby boy to a bottle earlier than I did with Cayde. I will still exclusively breastfeed, but I have a feeling with having a toddler, this baby will have to take a bottle at times.

All in all, it isn’t the end of the world if I am not ready. I mean I haven’t even put in his car seat yet πŸ™ˆ It is by the door so if it happens I can just grab it.

We are so ready to meet you baby boy! I will be posting a blog post of our hospital bag as soon as I have it packed!

Top 5 Summer Beauty Favorites

Happy Friday babes!! This week has been rainy and depressing here in Pennsylvania! This momma and her boy needs the sun! I’m all about going out and jumping in mud puddles but not at this point in my pregnancyπŸ˜‚ Thank goodness Cayde has a best friend next door to jump puddles with!

Today’s blog post is all about my summer beauty favs! Some are my tried and true products and then others are recent finds that I am obsessed with. Side note: every person is different. These products may or may not work for you. Ever since I started really caring about skincare and beauty it’s been trial and error until I found a product that works for me. My honest opinion is if you have similar issues to mine try them out. Worse thing is they don’t work and you return them!

A little background on my skin. Growing up my skin has always been oily. Like straight oily. My skin the last three years has been all over the place due to pregnancy and breastfeeding. Fast forward to today and my skin is combination:dry and oily. I do have some acne. So here goes!

1. Go-To Exfoliating Swipeys. If you are new around here, I have been raving about this little exfoliating pads for awhile now. You get 50 pads in this jar and I have recently started using them twice a week. They will last you awhile if you do just weekly. I have sensitive skin right now since I am pregnant and these don’t irritate my skin at all. The best part is they have the clean seal from Sephora. Meaning they don’t have all those nasty chemicals in them!

2. A Midsummer Night’s Cream. This moisturizing cream from Trader Joe’s is amazing! This is a recent find. I have been using it morning and night on my sensitive, very dry legs for almost 7 weeks now and it has been a lifesaver! I have tried just about every high end and drugstore brand of lotion there is to help my itchy legs and this cream has been the only thing to help stop the itching/dryness. Best part is that it is less than $7! It has a light scent that is not strong at all and it isn’t greasy feeling. Trader Joe’s is one of those places I love shopping because it’s clean and small. I can go up and down every aisle and actually look. So this find was a random find that I decided why not try it.

3. Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation. Normally I have oily skin and this pregnancy is way different than the last. When I was pregnant with Cayde my skin became dry and this pregnancy I have stayed oily. I literally have sampled so many different foundations the beginning of this pregnancy and I trusted my girls at Nordstrom on this one. I tried it for a week and fell in love. It is a matte finish and it is lightweight. Not lightweight like a CC cream but a medium-buildable coverage. I hardly feel it is there! I wear the color 3 in Fair.

4. Morphe Continuous Setting Spray. I always switch up my setting sprays trying high end and then cheaper ones. This setting spray is less than $20 and literally keeps my makeup looking fresh all day. I’ve been using it for 6 months and I’m just now needing a new bottle. Note: I don’t wear a full face of makeup everyday. But it’s a decent size for the price. It also doesn’t smell like some of the other setting sprays I have tried.

5. Dior Addict Fluid Stick lip gloss. I bought this going on 2 years ago and I recently found it again in my drawer when moving. I’ve been wearing it non stop. I wear the shade 289: Versatile. It is the perfect spring/summer color. It is creamy, thin, and not sticky. It is also long wearing, which this momma needs.

I am thinking of doing my top 5 beauty, skincare, or even everyday products every Friday. I love sharing what I find with you because some of them are hidden gems! As always if you have any questions or comments leave them below! Happy weekend babes!

The Things Nobody Tells You About Pregnancy

Happy Wednesday friends!! Rico is traveling to North Dakota today (jealous) and I always worry when he travels. Just me being well me. I’m all about being real and that is what today’s blog post is all about.

I keep telling myself I gave birth once I can do it again. I know I can but every pregnancy and delivery is different. I was in labor almost 24 hours with Cayde! As I am approaching the end of this pregnancy I thought about all the things I went through with Cayde that I didn’t expect. Here are 8 things that I came up with telling you the things I wish somebody told me!

1. Contractions and being dilated are no joke. I spent Thanksgiving Day that year on my hands and knees. Every time I called the doctor he stated that I didn’t sound like I was in labor. They tell you to come in when you can’t walk and can hardly breathe. Um….that was me and the doctor was still telling me I wasn’t in labor. The car ride to the hospital, every bump, was rough to say the least. When I got to the hospital, my contractions were less than 2 minutes apart. Thank goodness I was surrounded by my whole family to help and cheer me on.

2. The knocks you get while you are in the recovery room are never ending. Legit I swear every 20 minutes I had somebody knocking. How was I supposed to sleep with all that? It wasn’t even my friends or family visiting me. It was mainly hospital staff.

3. All I could think about while in labor was how hungry and thirsty I was. I wanted food so bad, but once they hook you up to that IV, no food for you momma. Rico would say he was leaving for a bit and it was to get food. He wouldn’t tell me it was for food because he felt bad but I knew. My hospital gave us a gourmet mail that night I gave birth and I couldn’t eat any of it. I tried but I just couldn’t. It looked so good too so hopefully this time around I can eat it!

4. Pregnancy brain does not disappear once you give birth. I remember I got ketchup in my eye the third day after I gave birth to Cayde! I don’t even like ketchup but I craved it with Cayde at times. Little, silly things like that still happen, even before I got pregnant again.

5. I could not wipe myself the last month of pregnancy. TMI I know but gosh! Nobody told me that. I should say it was a struggle, but I made it happen. And no nobody helped me πŸ˜‚ I struggled but I made it happen!

6. You get hot and I mean sweaty hot while breastfeeding. Maybe it was just me but Cayde was a winter baby. It was not 80 degrees outside when I had him. This time I am having a summer baby so I have a mini, portable fan to carry around with me this timeπŸ˜‚

7. I just thought Charley horses were a thing when I was a runner not for pregnancy. They were real with Cayde. Luckily I have only had them once in the middle of the night this pregnancy. It always happened in the middle of the night where I couldn’t move. I would eat bananas like it was my job! Bananas helped but they didn’t solve the problem.

8. Contractions still happen if you breastfeed. No joke 2 weeks after I gave birth to Cayde, I was still having contractions. Totally normal my doctor said but crazy!

I’m sure I will think of more but those top 8 are ones I never read about or was even told about. I hope you get a laugh out this because looking back I am laughing. It is all normal and apart of becoming a mom. To every momma, you got this!!

Third Trimester Update

Happy Wednesday friends!! I wanted to share a little third trimester update with you all! Seriously this pregnancy has flown by 😭 My due date is arriving rather quickly and there is still so much to do.

I decided last minute I would throw baby boy a celebration! Basically it is for me to have girl time and to celebrate baby boy. Literally I am getting a Chick-fil-A platter, a bowl of fruit, and water/sparkling water. I mean who doesn’t love/want Chick-fil-A?? It is going to be super small and simple because I want to focus on celebrating baby boy! So I am looking forward to that happening at the end of this month. I mean I still haven’t sent out the invites but I have told the girls πŸ˜‚ I will share on Instagram stories and I will write a blog post on it at the end of this month!

I have been missing Rico a lot! As the days pass, it is getting harder. Cayde has been sick so he has been super needy (he is all better now). Not having Rico’s support physically here has been the hardest. I don’t have much help nor do I ask for help. That is my weakness. My hormones are all over the place right now. I cry one day and the next I am super happy. At the end of the day, I know how blessed we are. I take nothing for granted. Cayde being needy and wanting extra snuggles, I soak it in. I know it won’t last forever 😭

Overall, I have been feeling good! I am trying to stay active as I’ve been doing this whole pregnancy. I mean active as in going for daily walks (when it is not raining). I am still over here organizing and cleaning daily. Hello nesting mode. I know once baby boy gets here, that won’t happen as much as I would like. Cayde helps me clean and it is the cutest thing ever!

It is crazy to think how I was all prepared before my third trimester when I was pregnant with Cayde. Now I am like I will wait to get newborn diapers and such. This baby boy is already loved so much and I can’t wait to share the rest of this pregnancy with you all!
